You are being invited to participate in research being conducted by Dr. Wendy Heath of Rider University.
Purpose of the Study:
This study is designed to get people to rate the amount of emotion shown by people in 12 short video clips.
Risks Involved in the Study:
Each of the 12 video clips will show a person speaking with a member of the news media about someone they know who is missing or has been found dead. There are no known risks involved in participating in this research, however if you think you will be uncomfortable watching real people talk about someone they know who is missing or has been found dead, then please do not continue your participation.
This study received approval from the Rider University Human Subjects Committee in July, 2011. The contact information for this Committee is: Dr. Gary Brosvic, Chair of the Human Subjects Committee, Rider University Psychology Department, Lawrenceville, NJ 08648 (email@example.com).
Benefits Involved in the Study: This questionnaire will help us determine how people perceive these videotaped clips.
What Will Be Asked of You: After answering some demographic questions, you will be asked to view a series of videos (each video is under a minute long). These videos will play directly within the survey; you will not need to download any files. Each of the 12 video clips will show a person speaking with a member of the news media about someone they know who is missing or has been found dead. After each clip, you will be asked to indicate how much emotion was shown by the person in the video clip. Overall, participation in this study should take approximately ten minutes. You will not be contacted for any reason, unless you request it.
Your Rights as a Participant: Your participation is completely voluntary, and you may choose to end the study at any time. If you have any questions or concerns you may contact:
