Title: An Investigation of Psychotherapists’ Clinical Decision Making for Treatment of Posttraumatic Stress Disorder

Explanation and Purpose of the Research

You are being asked to participate in a research study for Ms. Laura Oei’s dissertation at Texas Woman’s University. This study will ask you some basic demographic information, your clinical training experiences,  and theoretical orientation. You will be asked to read three case vignettes and identify the interventions your are most likely to use. You have been asked to participate in this study because you are a psychotherapist who has seen at least one patient diagnosed with PTSD.

Description of Procedures

As a participant in this study you will be asked to spend approximately thirty to forty-five minutes of your time reading case vignettes, responding to questions, and completing a short demographic and training questionnaire through an on-line survey. In order to be a participant in this study, you must be at least 18 years of age or older with a valid clinical license in marriage and family therapy, social work, counseling, or psychology in your respective state. As a participant you must have at least seen one patient diagnosed with PTSD. As a participant in the present study, you are not required to complete the study; you have the option to withdraw at any time without penalty.

Potential Risks

A potential risk in this study is loss of confidentiality. Confidentiality will be protected to the extent that is allowed by law. There is a potential risk of loss of confidentiality in all email, downloading, and internet transactions. Your personal identifying data will not be collected with the survey. Data collected through PsychData will be stored in a password protected electronic file. An additional risk is the potential loss of time. You are asked to participate on a volunteer-basis and the study should last between 30 to 45 minutes. You may leave the study at anytime without penalty. Finally, another potential risk is fatigue. You are able to take a break at anytime during the study and may choose to leave the study at anytime.

The researchers will try to prevent any problem that could happen because of this research. You should let the researchers know at once if there is a problem and they will help you. However, TWU does not provide medical services or financial assistance for injuries that might happen because you are taking part in this research.

Participation and Benefits

Your involvement in this study is completely voluntary and you may withdraw from the study. Participants will be automatically entered to win one of three $100 Amazon giftcards.
