Dear Research Participant:

Your participation in a research project is requested. The title of the study is Childhood Maltreatment and Adult Romantic Relationship Satisfaction. The research is being conducted by Alyzza Flores, an undergraduate student in the Psychology Department at Barry University. It is seeking information that will be useful in psychology. The research aims to understand whether experiencing childhood maltreatment, such as emotional abuse, physical abuse, sexual abuse, or neglect, negatively impacts romantic relationship satisfaction in adulthood. In accordance with the aim, the following procedure will be used: a demographic questionnaire, the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire: A Retrospective Self-Report (CTQ), and the Couples Satisfaction Index (CSI) will be administered on the subsequent pages. I anticipate the number of participants to be 100.

If you decide to participate in this research, you will be asked to do the following: complete the surveys, which may last about 20-30 minutes.

Your consent to be a research participant is strictly voluntary and should you decline to participate or choose to drop out at any time during the study, you may do so without penalty. If you are a student, there will be no effect on your grades.

Participation in the study involves minimal risk, however, you may experience discomfort as you self-reflect on your pre-existing emotional vulnerabilities and COVID-19 experiences. If this occurs, Barry University students may talk to a therapist for free at the Barry Counseling Center in Landon, room 105. Their number is 305-899-3950. An option for all participants is connecting with a crisis counselor by texting HOME to 741741, which is a textline for COVID-related stress. Also, participants may call 1-800-950-6264, a hotline number for mental health distress. Although there are no direct benefits to you, your participation will contribute to research in the area of psychology.

As a research participant, the information you provide is anonymous; that is, no names or other identifiers will be collected. Psychdata.com allows researchers to suppress the delivery of IP addresses during the downloading of data, and in this study, no IP address will be delivered to the researcher. However, Psychdata.com does collect IP addresses for its own purposes. If you have concerns about this, you should review the privacy policy of Psychdata.com before you begin.

By completing and submitting this electronic survey, you acknowledge that you are at least 18 years old, currently in a relationship, and voluntarily agree to participate in the study.

This study has been approved by the Barry University's Institutional Review Board. If you have any questions or concerns regarding the study or your participation in the study, you may contact me, Alyzza Flores, at (561) 574-2691, my supervisor, Dr. Pamela D. Sincerely,
