Informed Consent
DESCRIPTION: You are invited to participate in a research study concerning the experiences of undergraduate college students enrolled full-time (12 credits+) during the current academic semester. Your participation will involved the completion of an online survey consisting of approximately 75 questions. The questions concern the format of your classes, how you spend your typical week, and your current attitudes and experiences. All of your responses will be anonymous and completely confidential. Individual responses will be combined with those of other students and only group, aggregate responses will be shared. The results of the survey will be used to better understand student experiences and explore ways to enhance those experiences, with the findings published in academic journals and presented at academic conferences.
TIME INVOLVEMENT: Your participation will take approximately 15-20 minutes and consists solely of responding to this one-time survey.
RISKS AND BENEFITS: This study was reviewed and approved by the human subjects IRB at Elizabeth City State University. Your participation is not expected to involve any risks risks of harm greater than those ordinary encountered in daily life. The questions do not address sensitive or embarrassing topics. Nevertheless, the data will be collected in such a way that it will not be possible to link survey responses to specific individuals. Data will be maintained anonymously on secured servers. The
BENEFITS which may reasonably be expected to result from this study are learning more about your own experiences and the contributing to the body of knowledge in Psychology. We cannot and do not guarantee or promise that you will receive any benefits from this study.
PAYMENTS: To thank you for your time and effort in completing the survey, participants will have the option of providing their name and contact information to be included in a drawing for one of thirty $25 gift cards. The drawing will be conducted at the end of data collection in the Spring 2023 semester.
PARTICIPANT’S RIGHTS: If you have read this form and have decided to participate in this project, please understand your participation is voluntary and you have the right to withdraw your consent or discontinue participation at any time without penalty or loss of benefits to which you are otherwise entitled. The alternative is not to participate. You have the right to refuse to answer particular questions. The results of this research study may be presented at scientific or professional meetings or published in scientific journals. Your individual privacy will be maintained in all published and written data resulting from the study. All Identifiers will be removed from potentially identifiable private information and, after such removal, the information could be used for future research studies without additional informed consent from you.
